Jimmy John's in Duluth is fastly working on building its new store in the Plaza Shopping Center with a projected opening of this Spring (possibly even within the next month). And no, they are not opening another store in the same center. Jimmy Johns will be moving to a space across the road that formerly housed the sandwich portion of Great Harvest Bread Co. The move was triggered by the recent purchase of part of the Plaza Shopping Center by CVS Pharmacy. The sandwich shop, which opened its first location in Duluth around five years ago now, was forced to move out of their current space, as were all the other tenants in the building, as CVS will be razing the building and building their first Duluth location this spring. Instead of abandoning the area and moving elsewhere, Jimmy John's decided to find the closest available site, which just so happens to be across the site. Don't fret that this store won't be the same as the original Duluth location because they are in fact almost identical stores. This news also comes at the same time as the news about Mr. Movies closing. Their space (which is next to the new Jimmy John's) will be taken over by Super One. The question many Duluthians continue to ask... When will Jimmy John's open other locations in the city? Currently they only have two Northland locations (one in Duluth and one in Superior). Unfortunately at the current moment they do not have plans to open any other locations, but may however one day open an additional store or two.
(Inside of what the new Jimmy John's location will look like. The only difference will be that it will all be flipped. The counter will be on the left with all the seating on the right)
FUN FACT: Did you know that the owner of Jimmy John's is actually the cousin of not only one but two other founders of well known sub establishments? The founder of Erbert and Gerbert's and also Milio's Sandwiches both are cousins of Jimmy John's!
